Vetting booking form:

There are two grades of prior to purchase examinations:

  • Two stage examination (cheaper)
  • Five stage examination

The five stages are:

  1. Clinical examination
  2. Trot up, flexion tests, lunging
  3. Exercise
  4. Period of rest
  5. Final trot up
    (blood test)

Note that the two stage examination consists of stages 1 and 2 above. The five stage examination consists for all stages.

There are no hard and fast rules about which examination is appropriate. The five stage examination is more extensive and hence more expensive and would be aimed at horses/ponies that are being purchased for more money and/or being required to perform at higher levels>

As stated above there are no hard and fast rules about which examination is appropriate for you if in any doubt please contact your vet.
