Meet Cedar Vet's owners - Lara & Charlie!

Join a team where care, excellence, and growth truly matter

Owned and run by husband and wife, Charlie and Lara, Cedar Vets has been proudly established in the local community for over 130 years. As an independent practice with deep local roots, we are passionate about preserving our “why” — quite simply, we care.

We care about clinical standards, continually investing in improvement and development so we can be the best primary care practice we can be. We care deeply about our people — their wellbeing, work–life balance, and long-term career development — and we actively support progression at every stage. We also care about our clients, taking time to inform decisions and deliver thoughtful, contextualised care that truly puts patients first.

Cedar Vets operates across Alton, Alresford, Bordon, and a small branch surgery in Four Marks. Our new Bordon practice opened in March 2025, creating exciting opportunities to grow teams, develop new roles, and shape the future of the practice together. Our locations offer the best of both worlds: set on the edge of the South Downs National Park, with the New Forest and South Coast nearby, and excellent train links to London from our main practices.

We are proud to work from modern, purpose-built facilities. Alresford was completed in 2019, while Alton moved to a significantly larger, purpose-built site in October 2022, with capacity for future growth. These well-equipped environments allow our teams to focus on delivering high-quality care while enjoying a supportive, forward-thinking workplace.

At Cedar Vets, you will find a values-led, collaborative team, genuine leadership support, and the opportunity to be part of a practice that is growing sustainably — without losing its heart.

If you are looking for a practice that values people as much as patients, encourages growth, and believes in doing things properly, you will feel at home at Cedar Vets.

What We Value

Our culture is shaped by five core values. We live them, every day:

We Care

For clients, their pets, and each other — especially in the tough moments.

One Team

No silos. No egos. We step in, step up, and support one another.

Better Every Day

Curiosity, growth, and a willingness to learn — not perfection.

Sustainable Growth

We invest in people, in quality, and in doing things the right way.

Create Your Own Path

We encourage initiative. We value people who spot problems and solve them.

If these values excite you, you will fit right in. If you are looking for an “easy front desk job,” this will not be the right environment.

What the Role Really Involves

Our receptionists are skilled, calm, organised client-care professionals. On any given day you may be:

  • Welcoming clients and reassuring worried pet owners.
  • Managing a busy waiting room with confidence, kindness, and professionalism.
  • Turning enquiries into booked consults through great conversation and client education.
  • Recommending preventative care, including our Lifetime Care Club.
  • Staying two steps ahead — prioritising what matters most in the moment.
  • Supporting vets and nurses by keeping client flow smooth and information accurate.
  • Handling payments, medications, and appointment planning.
  • Keeping the reception area organised and ready for anything.

It is busy, varied, and emotionally meaningful work. But you are never alone — you will have a supportive team behind you.

You will Be a Great Fit If You Are:

Warm, empathetic and people-centred

You genuinely like helping others, even when they are stressed.

Calm under pressure

A busy waiting room does not rattle you — you organise, communicate and keep things moving.

A proactive problem-solver

You do not wait to be told — you notice, you act, you help.

Proud of your professionalism

Small details, accuracy and follow-through matter to you.

Flexible and team-focused

When the team is stretched, you willingly step up — and you will always be appreciated for it.

Resilient and growth-minded

You want feedback, you want to get better, and you want to contribute.
