Meet Cedar Vet's owners - Lara & Charlie!

Registered Veterinary Nurse Position

About Us

Owned and run by husband and wife, Charlie and Lara, Cedar Vets has been proudly established in the local community for over 130 years. As an independent practice with deep local roots, we are passionate about preserving our “why” — quite simply, we care.

We care about clinical standards, continually investing in improvement and development so we can be the best primary care practice we can be. We care deeply about our people — their wellbeing, work–life balance, and long-term career development — and we actively support progression at every stage. We also care about our clients, taking time to inform decisions and deliver thoughtful, contextualised care that truly puts patients first.

Cedar Vets operates across Alton, Alresford, Bordon, and a small branch surgery in Four Marks. Our new Bordon practice opened in March 2025, creating exciting opportunities to grow teams, develop new roles, and shape the future of the practice together. Our locations offer the best of both worlds: set on the edge of the South Downs National Park, with the New Forest and South Coast nearby, and excellent train links to London from our main practices.

Our Environment

We are proud to work from modern, purpose-built facilities. Alresford was completed in 2019, while Alton moved to a significantly larger, purpose-built site in October 2022, with capacity for future growth. These well-equipped environments allow our teams to focus on delivering high-quality care while enjoying a supportive, forward-thinking workplace.

It is impossible to offer high standards without the right equipment, and so we are continually investing in equipment such as:

  • Dental X-Ray
  • Video Endoscopes
  • Laparoscopy
  • CT
  • Multiple Multiparameter Monitors

Our Team

At Cedar Vets, you’ll find a values-led, collaborative team, genuine leadership support, and the opportunity to be part of a practice that is growing sustainably — without losing its heart.

If you’re looking for a practice that values people as much as patients, encourages growth, and believes in doing things properly, you’ll feel at home at Cedar Vets.

Our practice thrives on teamwork, and we work hard to encourage this. We have very low staff turnover and work hard to communicate with our teams, making them feel involved and encourage them to share their ideas. An established senior team of Vets and Nurses work hard to ensure that colleagues meet their development targets within a supportive environment, already set-up as a VNTC and Surrey Vet School IMR provider.

I am a nurse again, not someone who runs around just about managing to keep my head above water, I have time for every single one of my patients, to nurse appropriately, care for and to give them a high standard of care that I am happy with and what I want for my patients. I love how things that need tweaking or changing gets approved and changed so quickly

Staff Wellbeing

Wellbeing is not just a buzzword at Cedar Vets! We know work life balance is important to people and aim to achieve this in a number of ways:

  • Regular, protected breaks
  • Flexible working
  • Providing a psychologically safe environment with positive communication encouraged, enhanced with practice meetings and VetSafe reporting
  • Supporting out of work activities such as Tuesday evening “Spin club” and a new, very popular Cedar Walking Group

Vets and Nurses have the time and are not too stressed to answer my questions and teach me. Previously at a corporate vets there were not enough qualified veterinary staff that had the time to even check in on me. I love that I get weekly check ins now with my clinical coach, this gives me time to ask questions about anything I’m stuck on from college, practice practical skills and helps me work on my onefile properly. I also appreciate the routine check ins with my line manager, this gives me reassurance I can voice anything I am concerned about and it’s received well.

Over to you…

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for the job and values that align with our own. We would consider Full Time and Part Time roles at either branch and are able to provide support and a career development plan for someone who has just qualified or is looking for more responsibility and challenges.

Key Terms:
  • Pay Range – starting at £13.99 per hour up to Senior Nurse with additional responsibilities £15.74 per hour
  • TOIL for overtime in the week. Time and a half for Saturday hours (approx. 1 in 6 Saturday –TBC)
  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays with an extra day off on your Birthday
  • CPD allowance: 3 days and £300
  • Generous staff discount scheme for own pets (meds at cost, 75% on fees)
  • Further CPD e.g. Schedule 3 encouraged
  • Predictable, reoccurring Rota

The main things that stood out to me when I joined Cedars was the amazing support and how accepted I felt into the team straight away and by day 3 already felt like I had been here for a few months! The team work together really well and everyone is very supportive of helping with things your unsure on and not beating you down as well as helping you grow and supporting your own views and ideas! The long travel is absolutely worth it to feel a real part of the team and actually feel like I’m a respected nurse and not just a number 🙂

If you think you would be a great fit for our team, please send us a copy of your CV and a Covering Letter
